2 More Yahoo! Services see the End of Light!

We all know Yahoo! is struggling and looking at all possible ways to regain things that are lost.  As a part of those efforts, 2 more Services from Yahoo! will be suspended shortly – MyBlogLog and SearchPad.

MyBlogLog is community for Bloggers to collaborate and grow their Network and hence the Traffic.  It was acquired by Yahoo! way back in 2007.  Here’s the content of the shutdown mail from Yahoo!

Dear MyBlogLog Customer,

You have been identified as a customer of Yahoo! MyBlogLog. We will officially discontinue Yahoo! MyBlogLog effective May 24, 2011. Your agreement with Yahoo!, to the extent that it applies to the Yahoo! MyBlogLog, will terminate on May 24, 2011.

After May 24, 2011 your credit card will no longer be charged for premium services on MyBlogLog. We will refund you the unused portion of your subscription, if any. The refund will appear as a credit via the billing method we have on file for you. To make sure that your billing information is correct and up to date, visit https://billing.yahoo.com.

SearchPad is (was!) a feature of Yahoo! Search where in the users can attach notes to search results and also share them.  I don’t know much about this feature as I rarely use Yahoo! Search ahead of Google.  Here’s the mail on SearchPad

Dear Yahoo! Search customer,

As part of Yahoo!’s ongoing effort to improve your search experience, we are shifting our focus to some new search features, and scaling back certain existing features. After careful consideration, Yahoo! has decided to remove the Search Pad feature from Yahoo! Search, and saved Search Pad notes and notes shared by a web link previously using the “Share” menu option will not be accessible beginning April 20, 2011.

To retain your saved notes, please use the “Email” menu option. In the Search Pad window go to File menu – Email, or click the Email button on the Search Pad toolbar, to send the notes to your email inbox. You will not be able to retrieve your saved notes from Search Pad beginning April 20, 2011.

Thanks for your understanding and using Yahoo! Search. Please stay tuned as we add new features to continue making Yahoo! Search even better for you.

It is obvious that Yahoo! is taking measures to improve, by shedding the Excess Baggage it has accumulated. But that’s barely enough and what’s needed is Innovation and Strategic Products/Services to regain the Lost Market (at least a part of it). Let’s keep watching.

  1. You don’t regain lost market by shedding services that will lose you more of your market. You regain lost market by improving the services instead of allowing them to degenerate.

    • Steve,

Yes you are partly right. But what you gain by shutting down services, is more time and resources to focus on what matter the most. This can make a big difference, if utilized appropriately!

  2. Great for me that I found your Blog… I just started with my own Blog, can I reference to this post? I want to write something on similiar topic!
